The Truth About Fragrance in Skincare: Why We Say No to "Natural Fragrance"
Many “natural fragrances” still contain synthetic chemicals and known allergens. Our skincare is truly fragrance-free. We use no artificial fragrance, no so-called “natural fragrance,” and only pure essential oils when scented.
We’ve all seen the ads: “natural” body oils that smell like cupcakes or beachside cocktails. Tempting, right? We were curious too, so we looked closer. Many of these products include “natural fragrance oils,” which sounds safe… but aren’t quite what they seem.
Here’s the truth: the word “fragrance” on a label - whether it says synthetic, natural, or nothing at all - can hide hundreds of undisclosed chemicals. Even “natural fragrance oils” are often made from plant isolates or lab-created compounds that don’t exist in nature. They can still cause irritation, allergic reactions, or hormone disruption, especially for sensitive skin.
In the U.S., brands don’t have to reveal what’s in their fragrances. It’s considered a trade secret, which means you won’t see the full list of ingredients - even if they’re potentially harmful.
At Anatomy Naturals, we don’t use fragrance oils. Ever. Our products are either unscented or lightly scented with pure essential oils, clearly listed on the label. That’s it. No mystery blends, no irritating fillers, and no strawberry shortcake-scented skin.
If you care about what you put on your body, check your ingredients. And if a product promises to smell like your favorite dessert…girl, put that shit down :)
